Should I Consider Buying a Used or Refurbished Copier?

When it comes to office essentials, a copier machine is often at the top of the list. But purchasing brand new office equipment can be a significant investment, especially for businesses operating on tight budgets.

Fortunately, there’s a solution that combines cost-effectiveness with functionality: buying a used or refurbished copier machine. While the idea of purchasing second-hand equipment may raise some concerns, with careful consideration and proper research, buying a used copier can be a smart decision that saves your business money without compromising on quality.

Like the Auto Business, buying certified preowned has become more popular and may be the way to go. Copiers / MFP’s these days are far more reliable and if you can find something with a relatively low meter (similar to a car with low mileage) it can be just as good as new, for a fraction of the price of new.

Warrantees and Considerations

Obviously, you don’t want to inherit someone else’s problems, so you need to make sure you are working with a reliable dealer.  The key to selecting a reliable provider is to do a little research on them.

  1. Make sure they are authorized by the Manufacturer of the model they are recommending, as they will need a source for parts. So, if looking for a Konica Minolta or Canon model, make sure they are authorized.
  2. What recourse do you have if the machine fails to meet your expectations. See what kind of warranties they provide. Will they allow you to replace it if it is a lemon?
  3. Ask about the refurbishment process. Like purchasing a Preowned Car there are some Manufacturers that perform a multi-point inspection with thorough testing prior.
  4. Ask for a couple of references from clients that purchased something similar.
  5. Find out if the copier is still in production and if not when it finished being manufactured as you don’t want a model more than 5 years old, as support from the Manufacturer may be expiring soon and you need to make sure the dealer will have access to parts from the Manufacturer.
  6. Finally, check out their reviews online.

Negotiate Price and Terms

Once you’re satisfied with the condition of the used copier machine, it’s time to negotiate the price and terms of the purchase. Don’t be afraid to haggle—many sellers are willing to negotiate, especially if the machine has been on the market for a while or if you’re purchasing multiple units.

In addition to the purchase price, consider factors such as delivery, installation, and any warranties or service agreements offered. Clarify payment terms, delivery timelines, and

Finalize the Purchase

Once you’ve reached an agreement with the seller, it’s time to finalize the purchase. Make sure to obtain a written contract outlining the terms of the sale, including the purchase price, warranty details, and any additional agreements made between you and the seller.

Arrange for delivery and installation of the copier machine, ensuring that it is set up correctly and tested before use. If possible, schedule a training session for your staff to familiarize them with the new equipment and its features.

Conclusion

Purchasing a used copier machine can be a cost-effective solution for businesses of all sizes. By following the steps outlined above, you can obtain something that works just as well as new.

Remember to prioritize reputable sellers, thoroughly inspect the machine before purchase, and obtain written agreements to protect your investment.
